DREW CHILD DEVELOPMENT CORP.
Every Child's Success
Role: Graphic Designer • Editorial Design • Art Direction • Information Design
Drew Child Development Corporation serves families across South and Southeast Los Angeles through early childhood education, mental health, and child welfare programs.
CHALLENGE
Drew Child Development Corporation needed their 2010-2011 annual report to hold three very different kinds of content, personal family stories, program statistics and financial data, in one document that felt like a single trustworthy voice.
ROLE
I was selected through Taproot Foundation, which places experienced professionals with nonprofits on skills-based engagements, to lead design for their 2010-2011 annual report as part of a multidisciplinary project team — creating a typographic and grid structure flexible enough to hold personal stories, program statistics, and financial data without fragmenting.
APPROACH
Working closely with the photographer, I planned shoots and directed photography to authentically represent the organization's programs and the families served.
OUTCOME
Early proof of the systems-thinking approach I still bring to enterprise clients today.

The same typographic system holds a two-paragraph mission statement, a financial table, and a six-photo classroom collage — without ever feeling inconsistent or overloaded.

A recurring oversized word anchors navigation across every section.

A child's privacy is protected while the photograph still carries real emotional weight.

A single grid holds portraiture, hard numbers, and classroom life without crowding.

Complex revenue and expense data resolve into an immediate, scannable story.
Financial tables and individual family stories share the same visual language, so a reader brings the same trust to the budget that they bring to the case studies.
